The deceased has been identified as Hajira Begum W/o Habibullah Bhat, card no. 835552 from Aalikadal Rehbaab Sahab Srinagar. This is second such case in a week when unabated use of pepper grenades in the Srinagar has resulted into deaths.

While talking to the concerned Doctor about the death of Hajira Begum, he said “It was due to use of pepper gas by the police that she died. Though she was suffering from some chest ailment, but that is not the reason of her death”.

Family of the deceased said that the police fired the pepper grenade into their lawn. “The very moment they fired the pepper grenade, she suffocated and died”, they alleged.

“When she was brought to hospital, she had already died”, doctor said.

The doctors have alleged that the excessive use of the pepper gas has led to severe chest diseases since last many weeks. “for many days, it is becoming difficult for us to handle the patients”, doctors lamented.
